The Club exists mainly for those living further from the coast who would like to share their sailing experiences a little closer to home.
Affiliated to the RYA we have nearly 150 members owning approximately 60 boats, most of which are kept in or around the Solent but with several boats being berthed much further afield.
Many members look for crewing opportunities or simply wish to meet other sailing enthusiasts and our 'stowaway' system matches them with skippers looking for crew.
GCCC is ideal for those who have completed, or plan to complete, a 'Day Skipper' qualification.
Anyone interested in sailing is welcome to come along and meet us - without necessarily having any previous sailing experience!
Interested in joining?
You are very welcome to visit us on any Tuesday night to meet members and find out more about our activities.
Many visitors join after attending just one of our Winter Talks - we ask for only a £3 contribution towards our costs.
If you would like to see how we operate more formally then please read our Constitution
Here is our leaflet
We organise rallies, mostly around the Solent, from April through to October.
A major event is the two-week annual Summer Cruise which extends our cruising area to the West Country or across the Channel to France and the Channel Isles.
A number of social events are held throughout the year, mainly at the clubhouse.
Regular talks on a variety of sailing topics are presented during the winter by either an external speaker or a club member.
The Club was started in 1975 by a group of local yachtsmen attending navigation evening classes and who wanted to maintain their friendship and continued enthusiasm for the subject.
All had boats based in the Solent and wished to meet up socially and to sail together at weekends.
An offer was made by Guildford Rowing Club to make use of their premises and after a long and successful relationship the yacht club moved, in 2013, to newer and larger premises at Papercourt Sailing Club near Ripley.
The Club has since continued to grow and to welcome new members.
